Welcome to the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Tennessee. Our interests range from mathematical ecology through evolutionary genetics to field studies of behavior. Our faculty is a mix of internationally known senior researchers and a new cadre of energetic junior faculty at the cutting edges of their fields.
We train graduate and undergraduate students with research interests in animal behavior, conservation biology, ecology, ecotoxicology, evolutionary biology, behavioral and population genetics, plant biology, computational, mathematical and theoretical ecology, evolutionary theory, biology education, and other areas of organismal biology.
EEB was formed in 1995 from the former Graduate Program in Ecology plus faculty from programs in Zoology, Botany, Ethology, Mathematical Ecology, and Environmental Toxicology. Our adjunct faculty are found in Biochemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology; Botany; Comparative Medicine; Forestry, Wildlife & Fisheries; Geography; Geology; Mathematics; Microbiology; Nutrition; Pathology; Plant and Soil Sciences; Psychology; the Environmental Sciences Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the US Geological Service, and the US National Park Service. We encourage collaborations within the department and beyond.
